The Surrendered Structure

I make these patinated reliefs from an aerial vantage point, imagining the layered, intricate logic of cities and infrastructure the way you'd see them from above—grids, interchanges, the structure of parallel and obtuse angels of massive urban sprawls meeting shorelines rendered in miniature and pressed into cast surfaces. Each piece is built from an accumulation of model parts and mechanical impressions, so the surface itself becomes a kind of stratified record, closer to an archaeological find. I'm drawn to the relationship of human engineering and geology; the way that urban design is defined against organic landscape.
